Spring Walk and Catalogue Release: the wild backyard
Fort Allen Park, Portland, ME
June 5, 9:30am
A groundhog ate my lettuce, a fox crossed the yard, a cardinal claimed my peach tree for its nest! Join me for a walk along the East End in Portland; we'll keep our eyes peeled for the wild critters in our midst, and exchange stories about the wild in our backyards. During the pandemic, for many of us, our horizons were limited to the close at hand. In the stillness that was the initial lockdown last year, we turned to the creatures that revealed themselves and reclaimed spaces as we stepped back, attending to the wilds close to home. This walk invites a recognition of the non-human animal inhabitants we share space with on a daily basis, attending to their passages and hideouts, their marks and traces, and the ways they skillfully navigate within and through the human networks we've made. All welcome!
PLATFORM PROJECTS/WALKS: ecologies of the local - catalogue
PLATFORM PROJECTS/WALKS: ecologies of the local opened on August 20 and ran through October 11, 2020, hosting a series of eight artist led walks and four talks regarding local ecology and climate changes, in conjunction with an exhibition at Speedwell Projects focusing on walking art and ecology.
The 58-page, full color catalogue reflects on the project in its entirety, including photographic documentation of the walks and exhibition, information about the artists, and an essay I wrote about the project. Copies will be for sale at the launch, and available online for purchase.
